Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a decree appointing Ibrahim Rasi as head of the judicial authority in the Islamic Republic.


Khamenei stressed in his decree on Thursday, "the need for change and development in the judiciary, and the beginning of a new phase."

Khamenei praised key experience in the field of law and the effectiveness of his work in previous positions.

Ibrahim Rasi (born in 1960) is a conservative, a law expert and a teacher at several Iranian universities and schools. He is the author of a number of books on law and religion.

Since 1981, he has held various positions in the judiciary. Before the Islamic Revolution he was involved in social activism and the struggle against the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi regime.

Ibrahim was nominated as president of Iran's presidential election in 2017 by the conservative Mujahideen Association of Mujahedeen and lost to current president Hassan Rowhani.
