Infection - Health officials say there is no sign of slowing the spread of supernatural bacteria, that is, resistance to antibiotics, in Europe, which could make it more difficult to treat food poisoning and other infections.

EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Fitness Andriukaitis, after publishing data on increased antibiotic resistance, said Tuesday that this could alarm the region.

"The report published today shows that we are entering a world in which treating more and more common diseases is difficult and sometimes impossible," Andreiukitis said in a statement.

Drug resistance develops through the misuse or overuse of antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs, which encourages bacteria to develop in order to survive by finding new ways to overcome the drug.

The report of the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the European Food Safety Authority analyzed the 2017 data for resistance to antimicrobial drugs collected from the 28-nation bloc.

The infection report concluded that resistance to bacteria known as "Campylobacter", and can infect humans with food poisoning.

One of the antibiotics is severe in some countries, so much so that these drugs are no longer effective in treating serious cases.

The report added that most countries said that the resistance of the bacteria "Salmonella" that infect humans to the antibiotic "fluoroquinolone" is increasing

Resistance to 3 or more antimicrobials is severe in Salmonella bacteria affecting humans and animals.
